Located one mile northeast of Monticello along the Maquoketa River, this access includes 63 acres of riverine habitat. Known for its fishing holes, the Mon Maq Dam area provides fishing fun for all anglers. Sandy areas downstream from the dam serve as put-in sites for canoeists and kayakers. A modern boat ramp above the dam provides access for fishermen. EXTREME CAUTION should be taken near the Mon Maq Dam. People should not venture over, on, or close to the dam structures or they will risk drowning. Interpretive signage and a viewing platform can be found at the location of the old mill site. As part of the Maquoketa River Water Trail the Mon Maq Dam area serves as a wonderful resource for the county and state.
